SSL Provider Update: 1Byte Certificates Move to SSL.com on August 18, 2026

Starting August 18, 2026, SSL certificates activated through your 1Byte account will be issued by a new Certificate Authority: SSL.com.

If you already have SSL certificates running on your sites, there is nothing you need to do — they will keep working exactly as they do today. This update affects certificates you activate from August 18 onward, and it brings updated product names, new issuer information in your certificate details, and one small DNS step for domains that already use CAA records.

What changes on August 18

For most customers, the change is largely cosmetic:

  • Updated product names. Several certificate products get new names to match the new Certificate Authority. Functionality and validation levels stay exactly the same.
  • New issuer information. Your certificate details will show SSL.com as the issuing authority.
  • Different validation email addresses for OV and EV certificates. If you order an Organization Validation or Extended Validation certificate, validation-related emails may arrive from a different address than before.

Everything else — how you order, how you install, and the trust and browser compatibility your certificate provides — stays the same.

Your existing certificates are not affected

SSL certificates that are already active will continue to function normally. You don’t need to reinstall, reconfigure, or re-validate anything.

Reissuing an existing certificate also won’t change its Certificate Authority. A certificate issued by Sectigo stays a Sectigo certificate when you reissue it.

Only newly activated certificates will be issued by SSL.com — and that happens automatically, with no extra steps on your side.

New product names

Some certificate product names are being updated to align with the new Certificate Authority. Certificate functionality and validation levels remain the same.

Certificate typeOld nameNew name

DVPositiveSSL Wildcard, EssentialSSL WildcardStandard Wildcard SSL
DVPositiveSSL Multi-DomainSAN Certificate
OVInstantSSL, InstantSSL Pro, PremiumSSLHigh Assurance SSL
OVPremiumSSL WildcardOV Wildcard SSL
OVUnified Communications, Multi-domain SSLOV Multi-domain SSL

Same certificate type, same validation level, same protection — just a new name on the label.

CAA records: check this before your next order

This is the one step that may require action from you.

If your domain already has CAA records for Sectigo, add the CAA records for SSL.com as well before requesting an SSL.com certificate. Otherwise, issuance of the new certificate will fail.

Add these two records to your domain’s DNS:

example.com. IN CAA 0 issue “ssl.com”

example.com. IN CAA 0 issuewild “ssl.com”

Replace example.com with your own domain. The issue record permits SSL.com to issue standard certificates for your domain; the issuewild record permits it to issue wildcard certificates.

Not sure whether this applies to you? Most domains have no CAA records at all, and if yours doesn’t, you can skip this section entirely — with no CAA records in place, any Certificate Authority is permitted to issue certificates for your domain. You only need to act if you previously added CAA records restricting issuance to Sectigo.
